4 Youth Activities to Keep Your Child Busy During the Winter

Published
10/28/2024

Snowball fights, sledding, and ice skating are super fun ways to enjoy winter, but let’s be real – when the cold hits, all we really want is to snuggle up with a warm blanket and a hot drink. Being stuck inside all day, though, can get really boring, especially for the kids who seem to have endless energy.

Benefits of Staying Active in the Winter

Physical Health Benefits

Children and teens between 6-17 years old should receive at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity every single day. Exercise is vital for your child's physical health, aiding in muscle and bone development and keeping their heart healthy. It also helps boost their immune system, helping kids fight off common winter illnesses.

Mental Health Benefits

Frequent exercise also benefits a child's mental well-being, helping reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression. Physical activity can boost their mood, focus, and energy levels, especially during dreary winter days. A healthy mind also improves academic performance and could enhance a child's concentration, memory, and cognitive function.

Social Benefits

Participating in group activities or youth sports offers significant social benefits for children. These activities provide opportunities for children to form friendships, develop teamwork skills, and enhance their ability to communicate effectively with peers. Children have the opportunity to develop confidence, leadership skills, and empathy when they are frequently around their peers.

When going outside for a walk or visiting your local park isn't an option, fitting in 60 minutes of enjoyable exercise for a child can feel impossible. At Spooky Nook Champion Mill, we're dedicated to making these 60 minutes both easy and enjoyable for every child in our community.

How to Beat the Winter Slump at Spooky Nook Champion Mill

At The Nook, we have activities for all ages. We strive to provide local families with clinics, lessons and activities every month to keep your kiddos active and entertained. The cold months are no different!

1. Nook Kids Night

The kids' version of a Friday night out! Nook Kids Nights are filled with games, crafts, activities, arcade games, and more. The Nook provides snacks and drinks, so there's no need to worry about dinner!

Enjoy a date night or stay at home and relax - we have you covered!

2. Nook Days Off

At The Nook, we know that days off from school can be stressful. Save a day of PTO and keep your kids occupied on holiday breaks with Nook Days Off!

Following local school districts' calendars, The Nook provides full day care for children who are off of school for holiday breaks. From 8:00am - 4:30pm, kids will participate in games, sports, arts & crafts, and group activities. This is a great opportunity to keep your kid active, while allowing them to meet new friends and explore new activities.

3. All Sport Athlete Clinics

Is your child really active or interested in sports but you don't know where to start? The All Sport Athlete Clinic is the perfect opportunity for your child to learn the fundamentals of sports! Each week will focus on a new sport and will include fun games and activities. Children will also learn teamwork, confidence, proper technique and strength building in a fun and safe environment.

For an hour each week, you can keep the kids busy while you work out in our fitness center or enjoy a peaceful drink in our Hydraulic Bar!

4. Sports Training and Private Lessons

If your child is involved in summer sports, the winter is the perfect opportunity to improve their game. Spooky Nook has experienced coaches and personal trainers that will work with your athlete to enhance their skills and teach them new techniques.

Whether you are seeking one-on-one training or small group lessons, The Nook has great opportunities for your athlete to stay on top of their game during the offseason.
